This mag will not hold 5 rounds as designated and feed the first round into the rifle's chamber, as I previously reviewed. That is easily fixed though at no cost. I got this idea from another reviewer for a different mag so I can't take any credit, but it works here also. First disassemble the mag using hammer and punch to slide the base plate off to the front. Remove the follower and coil spring. The spring is very strong (way too strong imho) and needs to be shortened slightly to allow the follower to be depressed lower than factory amount at full capacity. I used a dremel thin abrasive cutoff wheel to remove one coil from the bottom exactly at the same orientation as the existing spring end, so the new end is oriented the same. Also, while the mag was already apart (again based on other review) I removed the two-piece plastic conversion insert and used a dremel abrasive sanding drum to very slightly deepen the existing semi-circular factory cut on the front top of the metal box, so that it goes down almost (but not quite) to the top of the plastic insert. I only removed a very little bit of metal, probably less than 1/32 inch, and smoothed off the sharp edges with the sanding drum afterward. You may want to skip this last part and try the mag's function "as is" first; it may not be necessary. After reassembly, the box now holds 5 rounds as stated and feeds very smoothly. Note: This mag cannot be loaded while in the gun. Like a modern pistol mag, it must be loaded while out of the gun by depressing the follower and sliding the cartridges under the feed lips from the front. |
This appears to be the same magazine that comes with the 350 Legend Scout Rifle from the factory. It is very very difficult to get 5 rounds loaded into it, and if you can, you cannot click the magazine into place with the bolt closed, and the top round hangs up on the chamber mouth and jams every time. It is really a 4 round magazine and in that capacity it works fine. If you load one round in the chamber manually, and then load this 4 round mag in the rifle, then yes, the rifle technically has a 5 round capacity. |
